Arvusterns Palace

Arvfurstens palats is the Palace of the Hereditary Prince, located at Gustav Adolfs Torg in central Stockholm. In the novel The Wallenberg Dossier the palace is the center of a high level meeting between Swedish and British Foreign Ministers, King Gustav V, the CIA and the Secret Intelligence Service, to determine what actions to take to oppose Hitler’s actions in Hungary. In this room the decision to involve Wallenberg is taken.

“Antal handed his fur-collared coat to a secretary and followed the other man through a small ornate door which opened into an adjoining room. The fire was burning and two sofas were positioned beside it, one facing the other across a large antique rug. The bold floral wallpaper did its best to lighten the tense atmosphere of the room which seemed to convey to the six men who sat beside the fire, smoking cigars and exchanging comments.”

Th palace was designed by Erik Palmstedt, it was originally the private residence of Princess Sophia Albertina. Built 1783-1794 and declared a historical monument (byggnadsminne) in 1935 it was then restored by Ivar Tengbom in 1948-52. Since 1906 the palace has served as the seat of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

The palace is facing the square Gustav Adolfs torg, with the Royal Swedish Opera on the opposite side.
